Coverings 2010

Just finished a company trip to Orlando for Coverings 2010. Every year Dominion Granite and Marble sends key employees to this international stone show to see what is new in the countertop industry. This year we enjoyed presentations on LEED certified materials which will become more available in the US soon. We are very excited that the Marble Institute of America is making progress on getting US quarried stones certified as Green building materials. This is long overdue and something which is good for the environment and the United States economy.
We also enjoyed networking with fellow members of the Stone Fabricators Alliance. The SFA is a wonderful group of fabricators who regularly exchange ideas and techniques in an effort to further improve the countertop industry as a whole. This year we discussed new and exciting imaging technologies which will one day allow customers to see exactly what their countertop is going to look like before it is fabricated out of slabs of stone that they have selected. This new technology will allow fabricator and consumer alike to move pieces around on a computer screen until a match is achieved at the seams and in the desired areas of the slab. This is very cool stuff that will revolutionize the way people shop for stone.
